Tactical Tutelage; Lessons in Leadership, Forged in Fire

April 18 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

We have been taught in the classroom that ‘NIMS is scalable no matter the incident’.  While a lofty goal, we live with the truth that ‘no plan survives first contact with the enemy’; or as Mike Tyson eloquently stated, ‘everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face’.Brockton Fire Chief Nardelli and Lawrence Fire Chief Moriarty have each commanded historic incidents in the New England Fire Service that were out of the realm of traditional fire response and saw their departments having to work as a team with organizations from all over the region and beyond with no warning.

Each of these experienced fire officers, with decades of fire and EMS experience, will discuss the successes and lessons learned while commanding both the Merrimack Valley Natural Gas Incident in 2018 and the Multiple Alarm Fire and subsequent evacuation of the Brockton Hospital in 2023.

Students will see the reality, practicality and efficiency of high-level ICS and command through two very different but complicated career incidents.  Through the Incident Commanders see how personal relationships developed over time can be a deciding factor in crisis management.

Following these interactive presentations there will be a Q&A roundtable discussion session that will allow a deep dive into the lessons learned and applied to both of these incidents.

Join the New England FOOLS as Chiefs Moriarty and Nardelli take the stage to share their stories and lessons learned with us on Thursday April 18th at 1300 at the Galvin Middle School Auditorium, 525 Main St in Wakefield Mass.
