The Town of Topsham (pop. 9,600) is conducting a search for an experienced, innovative individual to be the next Topsham Fire Chief to lead the Fire and Emergency Services Department consisting of 40 volunteer firefighters/emergency medical technicians and one emergency medical services director with an annual operating budget of approximately $540,000. The Topsham Fire and Emergency Services Department provides an excellent working environment in a great community with a well-trained and dedicated staff. The anticipated availability of this position is April 26, 2010.
The Fire Chief is a high profile community leadership position, which interacts with a variety of safety organizations such as the Police Department, County Sheriff, neighboring Fire and EMS, businesses and citizens. Qualified individuals will be expected to have advanced leadership knowledge and skills in fire & EMS operations, fire prevention, supervision, budgeting, grant administration, and critical incidents management, as well as a valid Maine driver's license.
Applicants should have ten (10) continuous years of local government service in the Fire and Emergency Services Field with five (5) of those years at the management level as an operations supervisor. An Associate Degree in Fire Science or equivalent curriculum required (Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science or related field preferred). EMT certification required and paramedic certification required. The ability to communicate and make public presentations is a must. Certified Fire Inspector is also preferred.
The position of fire chief is full time with an annual salary range of $60,000 to $66,000, depending on experience and qualifications, and includes an excellent benefits package.
